Choosing your window

Mar – Jun

Rhododendron valleys, climbing camps, Khaliya meadows; May–Jun opens the high routes and the yatra.

Jul – Aug

Monsoon greens and thundering waterfalls — but high border roads close. Valley walks only.

Sep – Oct

The clearest skies of the year. Second yatra window; the best photographs of Panchachuli.

Nov – Feb

Snow season — Khaliya Top snow treks, skiing camps and quiet winter panoramas.

Common questions

Trekking in Pithoragarh — FAQ

Which is the best trek in Pithoragarh for beginners?
Khaliya Top is the easiest big-view trek in the district — a 2–3 day trek from Munsiyari to a 3,500 m alpine meadow, suitable for families and first-time trekkers. It runs almost year-round, with a snow-trek version from November to April.
Do I need a permit to trek in Pithoragarh?
Only for the border-zone routes — Adi Kailash & Om Parvat, Darma Valley and the upper Johar valley (Milam) — which require an Inner Line Permit (ILP) since they lie near the Indo-Tibet border. The ICE arranges the ILP at Dharchula for every booking on these routes. Treks like Khaliya Top and Chhipla Kedar's lower sections need no special permit.
What is the best time to trek in Pithoragarh?
May–June and September–October are the two open windows for high-altitude treks and the Adi Kailash yatra, with clear skies and stable weather. July–August (monsoon) suits valley walks only; November–February is snow-trek season, best for Khaliya Top.
How much does a trek or the Adi Kailash yatra cost?
Prices depend on your dates, group size and vehicle, so The ICE quotes each trip individually rather than publishing fixed rates. Send an enquiry or WhatsApp +91 94129 09709 for the current rate on any trek.
Who runs these treks?
The ICE (Intrinsic Climbers & Explorers), a registered adventure society founded in Pithoragarh in 1999 by Bashu Panday. Its guides are local, rescue-trained, and hold India's premier mountaineering certifications — not a third-party reseller.
Can I book a private tour, or is it always a group?
Both — every route can run as a private tour with your own vehicle and guide on your own dates, a group tour you join and share cost with fellow trekkers, or a custom tour combining multiple routes into one itinerary.
